Fight fans were treated to an action-packed showcase on Sunday the 19th as Hastings Kombat Academy (HKA) hosted an incredible day of kickboxing, featuring 25 bouts filled with energy, determination, and emerging talent. With clubs travelling from across the UK, the event highlighted not only competitive spirit but also the growing popularity of grassroots kickboxing.
From first-time fighters stepping bravely into the ring to more experienced competitors sharpening their skills, HKA once again proved why it’s a hub for developing fighters of all levels.
Strong Performances from HKA Fighters
The day kicked off with Eli Welch, a young and enthusiastic fighter who set the tone early. Known for his upbeat attitude and relentless energy, Eli dominated his opening bout and secured a convincing win.
Quinten Jirbandey followed with only his second fight. His dedication in training was evident as he battled through a closely contested match to claim a well-earned victory.
Josh Light, making his debut, showed impressive composure despite limited sparring experience. Facing a tough opponent with heavy strikes, Josh held his own and demonstrated strong technique and power. Although he didn’t take the win, his performance marked him as a promising fighter to watch.
Archie Sands delivered a solid performance, continuing to improve both skill and confidence in the ring. While he narrowly missed out on the win, his progress was clear and encouraging.
Sam Bromley stepped up to a new age category after time away from competition. In a hard-fought, high-intensity bout, Sam’s experience proved decisive as he secured a gritty victory.
Fighters to Watch in the Future
Tom Chetwode stood out with exceptional control, skill, and power. Dominating his fight from start to finish, he claimed a clear win and is widely seen as ready to progress into full-contact competition.
Jayden Hamidi faced a familiar opponent, making for a tense and evenly matched contest. His excellent ring control and technique resulted in a hard-earned draw.
Eli Welch returned for his second fight of the day, facing a taller and stronger opponent. Despite the challenge, Eli showed determination, though the bout ultimately went against him.
Quinten also stepped back into the ring for a second fight, demonstrating resilience against a taller opponent. Despite a strong effort, he narrowly missed out on victory.
Zavien Corbett made the transition from cadets to teens while competing under kickboxing rules. Showing clear improvement, Zavien controlled much of the fight but lost points due to rule infringements, which cost him the win. Nevertheless, his development continues to impress.
Impressive Debuts and Breakthrough Moments
Sasha Maniolo made an outstanding debut, showing no signs of nerves as he pushed forward aggressively and landed clean shots to secure a dominant win. He returned later in the day for a second fight, once again controlling the bout and earning another clear victory.
Summer Moyce, despite previous experience, faced a difficult start and was unable to continue after an early exchange. These moments are part of the journey in combat sports, and comebacks often define future success.
Tilly Jean proved that size doesn’t determine strength. With relentless pressure and powerful strikes, she dominated much of her fight, which ended in a draw. She is undoubtedly one to watch.
James Smith stepped in for his first fight under challenging circumstances, facing a heavier opponent. Despite the disadvantage, he showed great determination and earned a commendable draw.
Ed Childs, another debut fighter, brought intensity and excitement to the ring. In a fast-paced bout, he narrowly missed out on the win but delivered a strong performance.
Felicity Entwistle overcame pre-fight nerves to deliver one of the most composed performances of the day. Once in the ring, she took full control and secured a decisive victory.
Closing the event was Sam Powell, competing in his first fight. In a powerful and competitive bout, Sam’s strength and forward pressure earned him a well-deserved win, ending the day on a high note for HKA.
